Steel welded reinforcement mesh is placed on top of the membrane. This reinforcement:
The black plastic sheet covering much of the floor is the damp proof membrane.
It's purpose is to stop moisture rising into the concrete, prevent water loss from fresh concrete
during curing and protect the floor finishes. The membrane is overlapped at the joints and is taped to keep it watertight.
