Level Best Concrete Flooring are extremely pleased to have been involved in the construction process of this new factory constructed on behalf of Progroup, a worldwide manufacturer of cardboard and paper. The new factory is designed to control and operate the very latest in automated low carbon omission technology, helping the environment.
Level Best Concrete Flooring installed the 100,000 square feet of concrete floor slabs over 12 pours, encapsulating all of the machine base slabs, areas to falls and high tolerance steel fibre reinforced “jointless” floor slabs, on behalf of contractor Cara Group.
Level Best, liaising on a regular basis with consulting engineers Alan Wood & Partners, installed both mild steel and galvanised permanent construction joints on the sub base which had been laid using the laser controlled sub base levelling machinery.
The steel fibre reinforced 300m deep jointless floors were constructed directly over the top of pre cast piles and designed on a fully suspended system. The steel fibres supplied by Bekaert were integrated into the concrete mix on site by Level best operatives along with superplasticiser to increase the workability of the concrete without adding water. These steel fibre reinforced floors received a dry shake topping and surface hardener to the top of the concrete to assist the concrete finishing team in suppressing the fibres at the surface of the concrete floor.
A large proportion of the floor slab design was ground bearing and in these locations Level Best opted for a steel fabric design solution using A252 steel mesh. Sawn joints were installed at specific locations to help control the long term shrinkage of the cast insitu concrete floor slab. These joints were subsequently sealed by the Level Best team with saw cut seal joint sealant, which protects the edge of the floor joints under heavy construction trafficking.
