Due to extremely rapid expansion HSH Cold Stores required more space to serve their suppliers with cold store produce. Existing buildings previously used for other purposes were re modelled to suit the large insulation panels required to insulate the new cold stores. Level Best Concrete Flooring was contracted on behalf of the main contractor to install the 66,000 square feet of 180mm deep steel fabric reinforced cast insitu concrete floor slabs over 6 consecutive slab casting days. Due to the insulation underneath the concrete floors, Level Best utilised one of Chubby’s mobile concrete pumps to discharge the readymix concrete supplied by local independent concrete supplier Cope Readymix from Grimsby docks. The cold stores were 11 metres to the eaves and hence floor loadings and the flatness tolerance of the floors were paramount to enabling the tenant to perform their activities seamlessly. The industrial concrete flooring contractors laid the internal warehouse floors to the tolerance of FM3 as per TR34 2013 edition, using full hand laying techniques in a flood pouring method of construction. Once the concrete had been laid to the correct tolerances the concrete finishing team commenced operations powerfloating the concrete surface and then sealing the floors with a dust inhibiting and curing compound known as Sika Proseal. Floor joints were then installed the following day by inducing saw cuts to precise locations using a Tyrolit Floor Saw and diamond blade.
