New cast insitu concrete floor slab, for warehouse extension on behalf of Torque Logistics, Wakefield, West Yorkshire

Laser screed concrete flooring contractors Level best Concrete Flooring has recently completed a concrete floor slab for a new warehouse extension on the outskirts of Wakefield in West Yorkshire.

The warehouse was over 24,000 square feet in size and Level best constructed the concrete floors over two consecutive days slab casting. Readymixed concrete supplied by the Hanson Premix local batching plants was laid directly onto the 2,000 gauge lapped and taped membrane supplied and installed by the industrial concrete flooring contractors. The concrete was then laid and compacted utilising the concrete flooring companies laser screed concrete levelling and compacting machine to the flatness tolerance of FM2 “special” as per the Concrete Societies TR34 2003 edition and the skilled workforce. The steel columns had been isolated with one of Level Bests many column surround isolation details they provide for clients. Existing doorway interfaces were detailed using Permaban Alpha joint to provide a smooth transition for forklifts travelling between new and existing warehouses. The steel profile permanent joint solution was also used as the day joint and construction joint between the various concrete daily pours.

Once the concrete had been poured utilising the Ligchine laser screed the concrete was powerfloated by the industrial concrete flooring contractors finishing team and large “ride on” powerfloats manufactured by Wacker Neuson. The concrete floor received a highly polished surface finish, which on completion was sealed and cured by the concrete finishing team with Sika Proseal curing agent. The Sika Proseal is one of the best (but most expensive) curing agents available in todays modern concrete flooring market place, but provides an excellently sealed surface to the concrete which minimises dusting in the long term.

Contraction joints were introduced the next day by the concrete flooring contractors saw cut team. Once the saw cut joint layout had been agreed in conjunction with the client to suit the racking leg and mezzanine leg layout the Saw cut team installed 50mm deep and 4mm wide joints to the floor slab. These joints were then sealed at the sawm time using Level Best Sawcut Seal joint sealant system. The Sawcut Seal joint sealant system for sawn induced joints only provides and instantaneous edge protection to the joints, which not only look great but also increases the joints lifespan.
