Level Best Concrete Flooring Ltd, specialists in the installation of industrial concrete floor slabs, have carried out the supply and installation of a new high-strength cast insitu industrial concrete floor slab at a steel works in Brierley Hill, Dudley, West Midlands.
The pre-pour set-up involved the placing of a polythene membrane and two layers of A393 reinforcing mesh on heavy duty concrete spacers and chairs. Following this extensive set-up, ready-mixed concrete arriving from a local West Midlands Cemex batching plant was pumped into a depth of 300mm. The 300mm deep industrial slab and two layers of reinforcing steel mesh was specified and met by Level Best to cater for the excessive loads of the heavy steel work machinery.
The 1,500m² industrial slab was cast over a three day period utilising steel profile “day joints” and the extremely lightweight Somero ride-on laser screed to avoid damaging the two crucial layers of steel reinforcing mesh. The heavy-duty industrial slab was then subsequently sprayed with a high quality proseal to cure, harden and seal the slab and saw-cut induced contraction joints were installed at six-metre centres as per TR34 4th Edition to complete another difficult slab.
