Yorkshire-based industrial concrete flooring specialist Level Best Concrete Flooring were selected by a repeat Midlands-based contractor to carry out the design and construction of the industrial concrete floors on this multi-unit speculative development on Marsh Barton Trading Estate in Exeter, Devon on behalf of real estate developer Graftongate, one of the UK’s leading industrial and distribution property developers.
Level Best’s subbase preparation team arrived onsite on the Monday to carry out the final regulating layer of stone levelling and compacting utilising laser-guided machinery. The subbase preparation team work in conjunction with the slab preparation team pre-setting all column isolation details, anti-crack mesh surrounds, armoured steel joint erection and galvanised joint installation in doorways. The preparation scope of works took the teams three consecutive days onsite, before they mobilised to another one of Level Best’s sites further South in Paignton, Devon.
The slab installation team then arrived onsite in Exeter, Devon on the Thursday to begin the slab installation. The team levelled and compacted approximately 200m³ of ready-mixed concrete for two consecutive days utilising modern laser screed technology, ensuring the slab was cast to a FM2 surface tolerance as per The Concrete Society’s TR34 4th Edition. The slab was then given a full powerfloat surface finish incorporating a dust-proofing curing and sealing agent. Sawn induced joints were installed on a typical 6m grid with sawn joints subsequently sealed utilising Level Best’s instant saw cut sealant.
The full scope of works on the first unit took six consecutive days, running from Monday to Saturday and included everything from final subbase levelling and compacting to sawn induced joint instant seal, again showcasing the full design and build service that Level Best are constantly offering a variety of Clients throughout the UK. Level Best will be remobilising to Exeter, Devon in September to carry out the design and installation of the second unit, which will include a similar scope of works alongside an industrial concrete floor enhancing dry-shake topping.
