Poor ground conditions at this project in Boston resulted in the foundations and slab needing to be supported on pre cast concrete piles. Level Best took on the design of the floor slab and opted for a steel fibre and steel fabric mesh combi slab solution for the floor slab design and installation. This is the fourth combi slab Level Best has installed this year and their expertise in dealing with difficult ground conditions and high floor loadings is proving dividend in this market. The floor design compromised of a high dosage of steel fibre reinforcement along with perimeter fabric mesh and top layer of A393 mesh throughout. Level Best also designed their own construction joint which needed to be tied to ensure the slab had full load transfer across the joints. This tied joint is exactly how it appears and will not move during Concrete shrinkage which negates the requirement for any sawn induced contraction joints. having no joints at all within the warehouse floor is absolutely perfect for warehouse operators to minimise downtime and disruption at joints, which improves fork lift movements and reduces forklift operator fatigue and reduces injuries for fork lift drivers. Whilst constructing the warehouse concrete floor slab in Boston, Level Best utilised their new Ligchine Elite laser screed to ensure flatness tolerances were met and the floor met the flatness criteria of FM2 as per TR34 2013 edition. This laser screed is also available for hire to other contractors wanting to lay concrete floors in conjunction with a laser screed machine.
Following the successful completion of this steel fibre reinforced concrete floor in Boston, South Lincolnshire Level Best went onto design and install a concrete floor slab in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
