Following the successful completion of Level Best’s first contract with a new Client in Doncaster, South Yorkshire earlier in the year, the Gloucester-based client appointed Level Best to carry out the full design and construction of three purpose-built cold store industrial concrete floor slabs in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
The global Covid pandemic has created and driven a extremely high demand from the food sector for high quality distribution centres and facilities located throughout the UK, ranging from Newcastle in the North-East to Stroud in Gloucestershire. Level Best’s design and build expertise in the cold store sector is being recognised, with repeat business a constant for the industrial flooring specialist.
The slabs in Stroud, Gloucestershire were designed from 175mm to 260mm thick. The varying slab depths were driven by the Client’s specific racking and distribution requirements. All slabs were reinforced with a single layer of mesh reinforcement and a combination of dowelled contraction joints and steel armoured contraction joints. Once the slab had been given a full powerfloat surface finish and a curing and sealing agent applied, Level Best introduced intermediate sawn induced contraction joints as per the slab design, which catered for the client’s racking.
Due to the height of the Client installed racking, Level Best were employed to construct these slabs in Stroud, Gloucestershire to the surface tolerance floor class of FM2 as per The Concrete Society’s TR34 4th Edition. Independent surveying and verification will be carried out to prove Level Best compliance with the high-tolerance requirements – a construction requirement Level Best specialise in throughout the UK.
