Specialist flooring contractor Level Best Concrete Flooring have recently completed the first phase of works in Tipton, West Midlands on behalf of a Kent-based repeat customer, who the industrial flooring specialist work on behalf of on a design and build basis.
The works in West Midlands consisted of the design, supply and installation of 9,000m2 of high-tolerance industrial concrete flooring as part of a multi-unit speculative development, built to bring high-quality warehouse, distribution and logistics space to the Wolverhampton, Dudley and Darlaston areas.
Works onsite commenced with the final regulating subbase levelling and compacting, ensuring the Level Best designed floor slab specification was met with tightly controlled sub base levels brought up to slab soffit level. These works are conducted inhouse by Level Best utilising the Bobcat laser-guided subbase levelling machinery accompanied by a roller. On completion of the final subbase regulating works in Tipton, Level Best commenced with the erection of 300+ metres of steel armoured construction daywork joints, providing arris protection at pre-determined contraction locations, providing the building owner and future potential tenants with a more durable floor slab.
Once all preparation works were completed and signed off, the laser screed slab installation took place over 7 consecutive casting days, with concrete pour sizes ranging from 500-1,500m2. The slabs were levelled, compacted, and screeded utilising the Somero SXP laser screed. Operating a laser screed is critical in ensuring that the surface tolerance of the slab is installed to specification.
On this project the specification was TR34 4th Edition FM2, which provides good flexibility for the future racking uses of the building. Level Best exceeded the specified TR34 tolerance by delivering FM1 compliant floor slabs. Level Best operate a fleet of four specialist laser screeds, all manufactured and operated in different environments and on varying projects ensuring the tight TR34 flatness specifications are consistently met.
