Internal and external fibre reinforced concrete floor slabs, Goole on behalf of Level Best Concrete Flooring Limited for their new headquarters and global operations centre

Level Best Concrete Flooring has completed the design and installation of the internal warehouse floor slabs and the external concrete floor slabs for their new premises located on the outskirts of Goole, East Yorkshire. In both instances fibre reinforced concrete was used for the concrete floor slabs. In the case of the external concrete floors, a structural polypropylene fibre was selected as the only reinforcement for the 165mm deep concrete slab. The surface finish was designed to create and “anti slip” finish using skilled operatives and powerfloats instead of the more common brushed surface finish to the concrete.

The benefits being that the surface finish creates more traction when wet and also lasts longer under heavy trafficking as opposed to a brush finish which can wear off quite quickly and leave no finish at all to the concrete surface. To surround the drainage channel and galvanised steel joint was used to isolate the channel from the rest of the floor. This joint is left in place and allows the concreting teams to pour through the joint in the same day without having to pour to the joint, strip the joint the next day and then pour again, thus saving time. This external concrete flooring design was also chosen in line with Level Best’s ESG agenda, using less carbon emissions in both the reinforcement and use of machinery and travelling times, helping the environment.
