Level Best Concrete Flooring, the concrete floor removal and replacement experts from Yorkshire, has recently completed the removal, preparation and reinstatement of external service yard concrete flooring in Washington, County Durham, North-East England on behalf of one of BIFFA, the UK’s largest waste industry collection, recycling, treatment, disposal and energy generation companies.
Level Best were appointed by BIFFA at the start of the year to assist with the dilapidation and regeneration of an old recycling facility in County Durham. This regeneration scheme “waste to energy” is being led by a government initiative passed to reduce the use of fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions through the process of generating energy from the treatment of waste or the processing of waste into a fuel source.
Preliminary testing, survey and design works were initially carried out by Level Best to ascertain existing ground and slab conditions prior to any slab removal works taking place. Level Best’s Slab Removal and Replacement Team then commence with the perimeter full depth saw cutting of the damaged and failed areas of slab. These areas of slab are then removed expertly prior to the area been prepped for the reinstatement of a new concrete floor slab.
The existing subbase was trimmed and compacted and the perimeter interface between existing and new floor slab is drilled and dowelled to aid load transfer, polythene laid and Permaban BetaExpansion and PD3 Danley dowel cradles strategically placed – an innovative dowel cradle designed to provide load transfer, deflection control and reduce restraint at sawn induced contraction joints to extend the life-cycle of the floor.
Fibre reinforced air-entrained concrete was pumped, levelled and placed by Level Best’s Floor Slab Installation Team and an abrasive rough pan surface finish was requested by the client for the wheel traction and anti-slip capacity. Level Best will now move onto the next removal and replacement areas located elsewhere on the site to achieve programme on this government-driven scheme.
