Overlay concrete floor slab in Rotherham to allow re let

Level Best Concrete Flooring has installed a new concrete floor slab on top of the existing concrete floor at this retail unit in Parkgate, Rotherham, South Yorkshire. The contract to design and construct the new floor over the existing concrete slab was required due to the difference in levels between the two retail units and the need for one large unit to allow the new tenant a well known DIY retailer to access both units and also have an excellent surface finish to the concrete for them to trade successfully.

Level Best firstly installed a layer of subbase material over the top of the existing floor approximately 60mm deep to build up the levels of the floor in a cost effective and quick manner. The subbase was laid extremely quickly and accurately using their laser controlled sub base compact leveller which left the sub base to the underside of the new floor at the perfect level for the new 150mm deep floor slab.

Level Best chose to design a steel fibre reinforced concrete floor with no joints and cast in one day. The benefits of this for the client result in much more flexibility as to where they can place their racking legs for the new retail floor. Clients may want to alter their racking layout once they have traded for a number of months or years and with having no joints in the floor to negotiate around, this makes it a lot easier to alter their layout.

Level Best installed the steel fibre reinforced joint less floor slab via a mobile pump due to restricted access in just one day with their laser screed concrete flooring machine, ride on power floats and dry shade topping spreader. The floor was subsequently sealed with a dust proofing compound and handed over to the satisfied client.

Trials and samples are ongoing in the existing floor unit to remove the existing floor coverings and polish the concrete floor to provide a suitable surface finish for the tenant. We will keep you posted with pictures and updates of the final floor finish.
