Following recent completion of a successful design and build multi-unit development on Marsh Barton Trading Estate in Exeter, industrial concrete flooring specialist Level Best Concrete Flooring mobilised further south to Paignton, Devon to carry out another industrial concrete flooring contract on behalf of a new South-West-based client.
This complex contract in Devon was another opportunity for Level Best to showcase their full design and build industrial concrete flooring capacity. A steel fibre and steel mesh reinforced “jointless” combi-slab was the solution opted for by Level Best’s in-house technical design team. Due to the ground conditions being unsuitable for a ground-bearing slab given the close proximity to the South-Coast, a steel fibre reinforced pile-supported concrete slab was the only viable option in terms of slab construction. Due to the tenant’s requirements and specifications, steel fabric reinforcing mesh was introduced into the slab to guarantee a maximum crack width whilst providing a full “jointless” and “seamless” industrial concrete floor slab – the ideal maintenance-free solution.
Over 5,000m² of concrete floor was installed over six consecutive days in Paignton, Devon utilising modern laser screed technology. A fibre-suppressing dry-shake topping was applied to the concrete to prevent steel reinforcing fibres protruding at the surface of the slab. A full powerfloat finish was given incorporating a dust-proofing curing agent, again providing a dust-free maintenance industrial concrete flooring solution.
Following completion of this steel fibre and steel mesh reinforced jointless combi-slab in Paignton, Devon, Level Best will be undertaking and showcasing similar design and build “jointless” steel fibre reinforced solutions for the remainder of 2021 in Boston, Sheffield, Dartford, Bradford and Coventry.
