This new bulk storage unit located on the port of Immingham was required due to the high demand on storage facilities at the Dock terminal following the UK Brexit. Level Best Concrete Flooring was contracted by a local civil engineering contractor to design and construct the steel fibre “jointless” concrete floor slab. Please see details of the project below:

The steel fibre reinforced floor slab was installed utilising the Ligchine Elite laser screed concrete floor levelling machine. The laser screed is the very latest edition to be manufactured by the American company Ligchine, and was purchased by the concrete flooring contractors in April of this year. Prior to the floor being constructed Level Best used their laser controlled sub base levelling machine to install the final layer of sub base to create the working platform. This was quite difficult to achieve as the client required some of the areas to be laid to straight grade falls and hence there was added complication.
Steel construction joints were used as the “day joint” between pours and also split the slab into 6 equal pours. With Concrete being provided by the local Breedon batching plant, located in Elsham, approximately 200m3 of material was supplied each day. The steel fibres were integrated into the concrete mix, using the Level Best conveyor system, which is easily transportable and the concrete contractors move from job to job. Level Best are now tendering for another design and build concrete floor slab on Immingham docks and hope to be on site sometime in the new year.
