The Problem with
Traditional Jointed Floors
Traditional floors don't fail in the slab - they fail at the joints.
Traditional jointed concrete floors are inherently vulnerable, with joints typically becoming the first point of failure. Over time, this results in ineffective load transfer, joint edge breakdown, and noticeable surface wear. Constant use from heavy plant and machinery accelerates abrasion, while curling can create uneven and potentially unsafe surfaces. These problems often lead to increased maintenance costs, unplanned downtime, and growing health and safety concerns, ultimately reducing performance and driving up operational costs.
The Solution
A seamless, high-performance slab built for strength, durability and efficiency.
Joint-Free Flooring is an advanced concrete flooring system designed to significantly reduce, or in many cases completely eliminate, the need for traditional joints. By combining both active and passive reinforcement technologies, the system enhances the structural performance of the slab while addressing many of the common weaknesses associated with conventional jointed floors.
Active reinforcement, typically in the form of post-tensioning, introduces controlled compressive forces into the concrete, helping to manage shrinkage and minimise cracking. This is complemented by passive reinforcement using steel fibre reinforced concrete, which provides continuous, multi-directional strength throughout the slab. Together, these technologies create a more stable and resilient flooring solution.
The result is a seamless, high-performance concrete slab capable of supporting heavy loads and withstanding the demands of modern industrial environments. With fewer joints, there is a significant reduction in maintenance requirements, improved long-term flatness, and enhanced durability, making Joint-Free Flooring an efficient and cost-effective solution for a wide range of applications.
-
How it Works
Every stage is carefully controlled to ensure consistency, durability, and long-term performance.
-
Active Reinforcement
Post-tensioning introduces controlled compressive forces into the slab to reduce shrinkage and cracking.
-
Passive Reinforcement
Steel fibres provide continuous, multi-directional strength throughout the concrete.
-
Combined Performance
Together, these systems increase load capacity, durability, and structural integrity.
-
The Final Result
A seamless, joint-free slab capable of handling heavy industrial demands.
- Minimal or no joints
- Reduced cracking and shrinkage
- Increased load-bearing capacity
- Improved long-term flatness
- Lower maintenance costs
- Up to 30% reduced carbon footprint
The Installation Process
Precision Installation. Proven Results.
Joint-Free Flooring is installed using a carefully controlled and methodical process to ensure consistent quality and long-term performance. The process begins with thorough preparation and shuttering, followed by the installation and positioning of post-tensioning tendons within the slab. Steel fibre reinforced concrete is then placed, ensuring an even distribution of fibres throughout the mix.
Once the concrete reaches its initial strength, the first stage of stressing is carried out. Final stressing is applied once the slab has achieved the required strength, completing the system and locking in its structural performance. This staged approach ensures optimal integrity, durability, and consistency across the finished floor.
Proven Technology You Can Trust
Joint-Free Flooring is a proven solution that has been successfully implemented across the United Kingdom, Germany, and Belgium in a wide range of industrial applications. Its design and installation are supported by recognised industry guidance, including The Concrete Society’s Advice Note No.49, ensuring best practice is followed at every stage. This provides confidence that the system delivers reliable, high-quality performance in even the most demanding environments.
